Pupils with Special Education Needs and / or Disabilities (SEND)

Outstanding education opportunities for all, are at the heart of our mission. We take a person centred approach, with each pupil at the centre of the individual learning journey  ensuring that each child’s needs are accurately identified and we follow the graduated response to meet the learning needs of our children and young people .  We recognise and celebrate each of our pupil’s skills and strengths in learning and support them to achieve their long term goals in ‘Preparing for adulthood’

We deliver a creative curriculum, have consistent approaches to behaviour and nurture wellbeing which contributes towards a positive attendance.

It is vital that each school follows the Graduated Response of Assess, Plan, Do , Review  in collaboration with our positive family partnerships. This 3 way partnership underpins all of our individualised provision and is a major contributory factor to the positive outcomes for the children at SET Felix Primary school.

In the event that our specialist SEND teams identify the need that external professional services are required to enable your child to meet their potential, we do not hesitate to liaise initially with parents and then engage with appropriate external services.

If we identify that the pupil is not making the expected progress we will initiate the collation of evidence for an Education and Health Care Plan (E.H.C.P.)  assessment. An EHCP is a legal document developed with the team around the pupil, outlining the planned provisions that must be delivered to meet the collaboratively agreed PFA outcomes for the individual child.  It is statutory that the  EHCP is reviewed annually with the team around the pupil and to enable this process to succeed, interim progress should be reviewed termly.

As an inclusive school where we value the individual pupil, we want all children to engage in all aspects of the school culture.  Our curriculum is creatively differentiated so that all pupils have an equal opportunity to engage. Within our graduated response to our pupil’s needs, we ensure that high quality teaching interventions are used as scaffolding for learning planned and reviewed by our specialist teachers.

The SEND team at SET Felix Primary consists of Mrs Elke Drane (SENDCo) Mrs Berenice Rayner (Assistant to the SENDCo). You can contact the team via the school office (01394) 283374 or via email on senadmin@maidstoneandcauston.org

Suffolk Local Offer – An overview of SEND support

Specialist Centre provision

Seckford Education Trust is working alongside Suffolk County Council to develop additional specialist education places. Across Suffolk there is a shortfall of specialist places available. This can mean that some students have to be educated away from their local communities.

As part of a local authority capital programme, additional new specialist places have been and will continue to be made available for children with special educational needs across Suffolk. This is on top of existing specialist provision.

As part of provision across the Seckford Education Trust, we have developed the following in order to provide more students with their education at a school in their area.
