Hello and welcome back!
This Autumn term, we’ll continue to build on the progress we’ve made so far: In Maths, we will be thinking about our number system and Place value; and learning how to use that to calculate effectively. We will continue to use ‘Times Tables Rockstars’ to learn our multiplication facts. We will also be working on different times tables for different groups, particularly, short and snappy times tables facts weekly and our ‘Rockstar’ timed challenges. We’ll also explore shape and space.
In English, we will be using ‘The Write Stuff’ programme to develop our writing in fiction and non-fiction. Our Guided Reading sessions will be based on a class text for the term with the emphasis on fiction, as we read ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes -a great story!. Each week, you’ll continue to receive spellings and work towards learning the target words for year 3 and year 4 or beyond in some cases!
In Science we will be doing some biology and physics. We will be conducting some really interesting experiments to develop our observation and testing skills – it should be fun!. In History, we will be learning about ‘Ancient Egypt’ which is always a great topic for the children. We’ll continue to do PE twice a week, so please make sure that we have our PE kits on those days and ensure that we have taken our earrings out and that long hair is tied back. We’ll advise the days once we have finalised the timetable.
Finally, don’t forget – children will be’ book pirates’ and the more they read, the more treasure islands they’ll find!
We are looking forward to an exciting and successful term.Miss patterson and Mr. keegan
