KS1 Curriculum
At SET Felix Primary, we offer a high quality, broad and exciting curriculum which is underpinned by being knowledge and vocabulary rich through a progression model. Our curriculum is structured by traditional subjects and sequenced appropriately to ensure systematic and thorough teaching inclusively for all. Rich cultural pursuits and a diverse enrichment programme are the other essential elements of the SET curriculum. The combination of core and foundation subjects, from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to the end of Key Stage 2, are designed to challenge and enable each and every student to achieve. KS1 Curriculum Expectations
Year 1 Curriculum
These are the main parts of the curriculum which are important for your child to achieve at the end of Year 1.
- I can use my phonic skills to read out loud.
- I can read common words.
- I can read words with more than one syllable.
- I can read words with an apostrophe (e.g. can’t)
- I can reread my books to develop fluency and
confidence.
- I can read many words quickly and without needing to
segment and blend a lot.
- I can spot if a word is read wrong by following sense
of the text.
- I can say how a character may feel in the story.
- I can say what might happen next in a story.
- I can make links about my own experiences to stories.
- I can break down words into their sounds and spell them correctly.
- I can spell some common words.
I can write lower and capital letters correctly.
- I can write sentences on my own and an adult can read them.
- I can join my sentences to write a story and an adult can read them.
- I can use joining words (e.g. and)
I can use a capital letter and full stop.
- I can use spaces between words.
- I can count in jumps of 2s, 5s and 10s.
- I can count forwards and backwards to 100.
- I can read and solve calculations using + (add) – (takeaway)

Year 2 Curriculum
These are the main parts of the curriculum which are important for your child to achieve at the end of Year 2.
- I can read and blend all sounds I have been taught.
- I can read common words.
- I can read aloud books within my reading level
without making many errors and sounding out new
words without long pauses.
- I can re – read books to improve my speed and confidence.
- I can enjoy and understand books by listening and
talking about my views of the text.
- I can enjoy reading and discussing the order of the
events in books.
- I can enjoy reading by knowing a wider range of stories.
- I can spot if a word has been read wrongly by
following the sense of the text.
- I can make links about my own experiences to
stories.
- I can say what might happen next in the story.
- I can break down words into their sounds and spell them correctly.
- I can spell most common words.
- I can write lower and capital letters correctly.
- I can use ?and !marks.
- I can write for different purposes for long and short pieces of writing.
- I can proof read my work checking it for sense and spellings I know.
- I can use when, if, that, because, or, but in my writing.
- I can add endings to words –ly, -er, -est.

- I can compare and order number to 100 using <> =.
